Violent crime in Shaker Heights has decreased by half since 2009, according to statistics released by the FBI last month, but property crime has increased significantly.
Police departments across the country report the number of six kinds of criminal offenses to the FBI every year, and the FBI compiles the data.
Shaker Heights sees fewer incidents of most kinds of crime than most other Ohio cities of a similar size.
Violent crime - which includes murder, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault - has decreased from 68 offenses in 2009 to just 34 in 2011.
But property crime has increased by nearly 23 percent in the same time period.
