The woman and daughters had returned home June 5 after taking the family dog to the vet. The reason for the vet visit was that a deer had attacked the dog.

When they got out of their car in the driveway, the deer returned and charged at them. They tried to keep the deer at bay using a patio table and throwing a ball at it, but the deer kept charging.

The man told police he heard the commotion from inside the house, so he grabbed his pistol and ran outside. He shot the deer, and it ran away, according to the police report.

Police later found the deer wounded with a gunshot wound to the head, so they euthanized the animal.
