Shaker School Board Makes Progress on Superintendent Search

Board Picks Superintendent Search Firm
The Board of Education has selected the firm of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates (HYA) to assist in the search for a new superintendent. The firm will work with the Board to:
   - Develop a search process and timeline
   - Seek public input on the qualities desired in a superintendent
   - Develop a candidate profile
   - Recruit and screen candidates
   - Facilitate the Board’s decision making
   - Provide support during the transition

We will begin working with HYA next week to work out details of the search process and timeline. This information will be shared with the public when available. Our goal is to have a new superintendent in place for the 2013-14 school year.
HYA, based in Chicago, is a highly respected search firm specializing in education, with an extensive network of contacts throughout the nation. The firm, a division of the ECRA Group, has conducted more than 900 executive searches for school districts throughout the nation.
Of particular interest to the Board is HYA’s experience working with school districts that are similar to Shaker Heights with respect to strengths, challenges, diversity, and/or size. Its past clients include the school districts of Grosse Pointe (MI), Montgomery County (MD), Oak Park (IL), Mamaroneck (NY), Newton (MA), Alexandria (VA), South Orange-Maplewood (NJ), and Cambridge (MA).   See full announcement here
 
HYA experience in Ohio and Shaker Heights
HYA recently conducted 2 Superintendent searches in Ohio: for the Indian Hill Exempted Schools (2000 students) and the Mentor Public Schools (8900 students).  HYA is currently conducting the search for a Superintendent of the Upper Arlington City Schools (5200 students) a Columbus suburb.  HYA was considered but was not hired for the 2010 search for an Assistant Superintendent for Shaker Heights but was hired for the 2000 search for Shaker Heights High School Principal.
