Students, faculty, staff and administrators packed John Carroll University’s Kulas Auditorium on Feb. 21 to watch two actors from Catharsis Productions– an acting company based out of Chicago. Although humor and improvisation comprised the performance, the show wasn’t meant for entertainment purposes alone. “Sex Signals,” an educational show, examines controversial issues such as stereotypic gender roles, double standards, social pressures, sexual assault, dating violence and rape – in a way to engage, inform and entertain. Last week the John Carroll University student atrium was filled with music, energized students and a very special guest who all shared one common trait: a drive to be a better person. Students gathered for the “Dare You To Move” event put on by an on-campus group called The Living Person Friday, Feb. 15. Shaker resident Andrew Craze discusses his group's first show in four years, "Is Speed Dating an Olympic Sport?"
The Public Squares comedy troupe returns after four years away from the stage with the mission to bring sketch comedy back to Northeast Ohio. The journey begins at 8 p.m. tonight with “Is Speed Dating an Olympic Sport?” The show takes place at the Green Road Annex, 2200 S. Green Road, on the campus of John Carroll University. The group will give another performance on Saturday at the same time. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. for both shows. "It's a series of sketches in the show that are based on speed-dating, but it's not exclusively about that," said Andrew Craze, a Shaker resident who has performed with the troupe, but now handles lights and sound for the Public Squares.
