Shaker Has Second-Highest Property Tax Rate in Ohio

Here are the numbers that make up your property tax bill this year

Shaker Heights property taxes will rise by more than 4 mills this year, making the community the second-highest rate in the state, according to data provided by The Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com. Homeowners will pay $3,797 for every $100,000 in home value this year, up from $3,628 last year, according to the database. Overall millage stands at 123.98 this year, compared to 118.48 in 2012. Shaker's rate was second in Ohio behind a location right around the corner — the Shaker Square portion of Cleveland in the Shaker Heights School District. Despite the high ranking, the Shaker school board in October approved a five-year financial forecast that, in part, assumed that voters would approve a 9.9-mill levy in 2014. Consultant Presents Superintendent Profile to Shaker Schools

The profile is based on meetings, interviews and surveys from more than 500 community leaders, parents, students, residents and district employees

Though Shaker Schools is still months away from picking a replacement for outgoing superintendent Mark Freeman, the district has established the type of candidate it is looking for. Illinois-based executive search firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates is helping the district along the way, and a representative attended a Shaker school board meeting Tuesday night to share results of the company's efforts thus far. Dr. Marvin Edwards, a senior associate at HYA who has worked for districts in Illinois, Texas and Virginia, presented the "leadership profile" the consultant put together after spending time in the Shaker community. The profile is based on the responses HYA received in a recent two-day series of one-on-one interviews and …

Shaker Heights School Board To Consider Personnel Changes, Issuing and Selling Bonds

The board's regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at the Shaker Heights City Schools Administrative Offices.

The Shaker Heights School Board will meet at 6 p.m. today in the Shaker Heights City Schools Administrative Offices, 15600 Parkland Drive. Board members will consider various assignment changes, supplemental contracts, appointments and resignations, according to the agenda, included in the PDFs section of this article. The board will also consider the retirement of Dianne Derrick, a teacher in the Shaker Schools for 29 years. She most recently taught enriched language arts at Woodbury School, and her retirement will be effective at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.
