Shaker Council Accepts Plan for Lee Road Corridor

The city will now seek grant funding to implement recommendations to improve Lee Road, mostly between Chagrin and Scottsdale boulevards

Shaker Heights is one step closer to make a range of improvements to the Lee Road corridor, between Chagrin and Scottsdale boulevards. City Council on Monday adopted and accepted recommendations from the Lee Road Traffic Study and Corridor Plan, crafted by Michael J. Baker Inc. of Cleveland. Now that council has accepted the plan, the city will begin applying for grants to pay for the improvements. "This has been in the works for a long time," Councilman Rob Zimmerman said. "It's an important project, and I think people recognize that. "It's a gateway area into the city and it needs to be enhanced." I've read that it's called, 'traffic calming', the closing of lanes and widening of sidewalks and bicycle lanes, etc. They've already started this at Chagrin and Warrensville/Van Aken, and I can tell you that all it promotes is gridlock, not calm. NOACA Approves $540,000 in Grant Funding for Lakes to Lakes Trail in Shaker

Shaker needs a local match of $135,000 for multi-city trail

The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency has approved the Shaker Heights portion of the Lakes to Lakes Trail. Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights had been waiting since May to know whether NOACA, the  transportation and environmental planning agency that represents five counties in Northeast Ohio, would approve its joint application for $540,000 in grant funding. The cost for the five-mile trail from Interstate 271 to Lake Erie is $675,000. Shaker is applying for grants to cover its $135,000 local match. Shaker's portion will be a 0.6-mile path along Fairhill Road. The path will connect to Cleveland's trail, near the city line on East 127th Street.
