The Red Raiders softball team lost in the district semi-final game against Brecksville-Broadview Heights
The Shaker Heights softball team's season has come to an end. The Red Raiders lost 10-0 to Brecksville-Broadview Heights in the district semi-final game. Congratulations to the team on a great season!

Doing some spring cleaning? Help out some local kids while you're at it.
The Shaker Heights Recreation Department is gathering used sports equipment for a sale to benefit the Shaker Heights Youth Center beginning next month. Drop off your old baseball bats, hockey sticks, volleyballs and any other sports equiepment to the Thornton Park Community Room June 12 through 14 between 5 and 7 p.m. The items will be sold June 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and proceeds will go to the Youth Center. Senior Eric Sterin was given the honor by The Plain Dealer.
It's tough to get anything past Shaker Heights hockey goalie Eric Sterin. It's unlikely that he missed winning a major award either. Sterin, a senior, was named as the hockey player of the year by The Cleveland Plain Dealer. His efforts were vital in leading the Red Raiders to their fourth state championship this season, according to The Plain Dealer. A starter since his freshman year, Sterin finished his career with a 91-31-1 record and with 32 shutouts. READ THE FULL STORY HERE

Runners Luke Baum, Jennifer Kuhel, Emily Thomarios, Maureen Glasper, Heather Weingart and Susan Luria of Shaker Heights told their Facebook friends that they are OK after the Boston Marathon Monday. Two bomb blasts that killed three and injured more than 100 people at the finish line of the Boston Marathon have many wondering about their loved ones participating in the race. Patch continues to follow the story. Luke Baum wrote on Shaker Heights Patch's Facebook post about the bombing: Thanks for concern. David Berger -- one of the 11 members of Israel Olympic team to be murdered in the 1972 Olympics -- will be entered posthumously in the Hall of Fame on April 21
David Berger -- a Shaker Heights native and member of Israel's weightlifting team at the 1972 Olympics in Munich -- will be entered posthumously into the National Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, according to The Jerusalem Post. Berger was one of the 11 athletes and coaches taken hostage and killed by members of Black September, a Palestinian terrorist organization, during the Olympic games. Berger's induction will occur on April 21 at the Hall of Fame in Commack, New York. Berger, 28, was as smart -- if not smarter -- than he was strong. He was a National Merit Scholar in high school and ultimately earned his doctorate of law degree from Columbia University. In 1969 he was a gold medalist at the U.S. Junior National Weightlifting competition…
