There are so many ways to make a positive difference in your community, and even the simplest of…Read More acts can help. This is just one of them. Regardless of how you do it, helping others is the act of a role model and an Everyday hero. Team Dawg salutes you all!

I think a lot of the entitlement culture is a direct result of so-called "expert"…Read More child-rearing philosophies of the past 30 years or so. Don't damage your kid's self-esteem by telling them they were wrong! Don't damage their fragile minds by "not giving them a trophy" like the author said. Good grief, when did we become such goody-two-shoes in this country? This is supposed to be a country of workers! Of fighters! Of upstanding citizens! Not a bunch of weenie cry baby "I'm telling" lazy good-for-nothing losers. It's no wonder the US is going to hell in a handbasket. If more people - more PARENTS - don't get on board the CORRECT bandwagon, we can just forget a reversal of the downward spiral that we are in.

Do you intend to operate in an environment of trust and respect?
Or, do you intend to operate in…Read More fear and anger?
Your intentions will pull you into the future and further expand or limit your choices.
Positive or negative reinforcement will further shape your situation.

Devone, you've made some good observations in this article. Much of this problem is because…Read More children are not being taught to respect themselves and others, and to 'love their neighbors as themselves'. "Bring up a child in the way he/she should go..." Parents have a LOT of responsibility! Children really do live what they learn. May God bless as you rear your children!

Not sure if my comment posted. You are absolutely right! Time, child care, and money for the gym…Read More are thngs that many of those childless moms don't have to worry about! Plus, when I was childless, I was always on the go, even after I got married!

Preach it! So sick of what tv and media portrays as the perfect body. And they wonder why our teen…Read More girls have eating disorders! 100 years ago a size 3 Would have been considered underweight and unhealthy! Now it's considered plus sized! Who are they kidding with their BMI point? I'm with you , when someone else pays for my chef and trainer and babysitter then they can wonder why I look like I do, till then they can cram it! !

Great idea. I was gonna make a couple of resolutions, but you talked me out of it. haha! It's true…Read More that we don't know what's going to happen, you're right to want to live in the moment. Especially after what happened this year at Sandy Hooke, I want to spend more time with my children just doing nothing, you know?

I absolutely loved reading your comments about living in the moment. I say to myself everyday that…Read More I will do just that, but then something else seems to take over. We all must take this advice and truly be happy for what we do have in life instead of worrying about what might happen tomorrow, or what we don't have. Thanks! Your words are inspiring!

A person who made a big difference in my life in 2012, and in the lives of fellow taxpayers in…Read More Shaker Heights, was Maurice Thompson, Executive Director of the 1851 Center for Constitutional Law. http://www.ohioconstitution.org/
When I founded the Shaker Heights Taxpayers Union in opposition to the then proposed 29% income tax hike, our group was threatened by a SLAPP lawsuit from the City of Shaker Heights. Thanks to Maurice and the generous donors of the 1851 Center, a free speech complaint was filed against the City in federal court on our behalf, and our right to participate in the public debate over the tax hike was protected. http://www.ohioconstitution.org/2012/07/26/federal-court-enjoins-shaker-heights-from-blocking-message-of-tax-increase-opponents/
Even though the tax hike passed in August, our organization -- now called Grow Shaker www.growshaker.org -- has grown and will continue to work for a business- and people-friendly environment in our garden suburb.
