Shaker Heights School Board Names Amy Fulford Its Newest Member

Fulford replaces former board member Jennifer P. Mearns

The Shaker Heights Board of Education began its meeting Tuesday by introducing the public to its newest member, Amy Fulford.

Treasurer Bryan C. Christman swore Fulford in to finish the unexpired term of former board member Jennifer P. Mearns. The board announced in June that to Northern Kentucky.

Fulford is from Kentucky, and has served on various nonprofit and private boards while living in Northeast Ohio, Atlanta and other cities. Her role in Shaker Heights marks her first stint as a school board member.

"I'm really excited about it," she said. "I've gotten to know the board members one by one over time. I look forward to working with them to learn how I can help."

Board President Annette Tucker Sutherland said Fulford beat out 10 other candidates for the position. Her term expires Dec. 31, 2013.

The board elected William L. Clawson to replace Mearns as vice president.

Fulford owns Beachwood-based enlight, a management consulting firm. The National Association of Women Business Owners named her one of the top ten Women Business Owners in Northeast Ohio.

Fulford has been a member of ' volunteer advisory group, the Finance and Audit Committee. She also serves on the boards of Youth Opportunities Unlimited and the Shaker Heights Development Corporation.

She has daughters in and preschool.

"My dad was a board chair of my school system, so I watched him from afar," Fulford said. "With my two little ones, I'm thinking long-term about the future, so I'll do anything I can to help (the district)."
