Next Stop: Germany for Shaker Heights High School Students on Summer Exchange

Fourteen Shaker High students left this morning for a 3 1/2 week exchange program in Goslar, Germany. The students will spend two weeks living with host families, mingling with students from the local high school and visiting attractions in the Goslar area before moving on to Berlin and Munich later in the trip.

Highlights of the  journey are expected to be stops at Neuschwanstein, the Bavarian castle that inspired Sleeping Beauty's Castle at Disney World, a Volkswagen plant, the Dachau concentration camp and Goslar's own Kaiserpfalz, the summer palace of  the Holy Roman Emperors.

Shaker's exchange program with Goslar is one of the longest-running of any high school in America, with annual visits going back more than 30 years. Later this fall, students from Goslar's Ratsgymasium will pay a return visit to Shaker Heights.
