NOACA Approves $540,000 in Grant Funding for Lakes to Lakes Trail in Shaker

Shaker needs a local match of $135,000 for multi-city trail

The Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency has approved the Shaker Heights portion of the Lakes to Lakes Trail.

Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights had been waiting since May to know whether NOACA, the  transportation and environmental planning agency that represents five counties in Northeast Ohio, would approve its joint application for $540,000 in grant funding.

The cost for the five-mile trail from Interstate 271 to Lake Erie is $675,000. Shaker is applying for grants to cover its $135,000 local match.

Shaker's portion will be a 0.6-mile path along Fairhill Road. The path will connect to Cleveland's trail, near the city line on East 127th Street. On the Shaker path's east side, it will connect to the Cleveland Heights North Park trail near the city line on Coventry Road.

According to a Shaker Heights Planning Department briefing, the city has its eyes on The Cleveland Foundation, The St. Luke's Foundation, The Dominion Foundation and Bikes Belong as potential grant providers.

The Cleveland RTA and Ohio Department of Transportation both supported the trail in NOACA's Intergovernmental Review and Consultation.
