Trial to Start for Driver in Fatal Shaker Heights Crash

Amanda Buxton, 22, scheduled to appear in court on charges she caused the death of Shaker Heights native Brian Horwich

A Cleveland woman accused of driving under the influence and causing the death of Shaker Heights man Brian Horwich last year is scheduled to begin trial Tuesday.

Amanda Buxton, 22, faces two charges of aggravated vehicular homicide as well as counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and drug possession.

The drug Buxton is accused of possessing is medication she didn't have a prescription for.

The crash happened just before 2 a.m. Nov. 15 at the intersection of Warrensville Center Road and Fairmount Boulevard in Shaker Heights. According to prosecutors, Buxton crashed into a tree.

Police said that Horwich, who was 25, was in the back seat of the car.
