Thieves Go For Irony, Steal the Kitchen Sink

Shaker Heights Police report that someone gutted a home.

A vacant home in Shaker Heights is missing everything — including the kitchen sink — after police say burglars got to it last month.

Shaker Heights Police said a caretaker checked on the Colwyn Road home Dec. 10 and found it gutted: someone had entered the home and stolen $500 in copper piping, a stove, a hot water tank, a refrigerator, countertops and cabinets from the bathroom and kitchen, and, of course, the kitchen sink.

The caretaker said the theft occurred sometime between Nov. 8 and Dec. 10.

Police remarked that, with vacant homes, contractors go in and out often and neighbors would likely not think it was unusual to see this unauthorized remodeling job.
