Serial Bank Robbery Suspect Captured by Shaker Heights Police

Man is accused of robbing seven banks, including one other in Shaker Heights, with white powder on his face.

Police believe they have nabbed a man who has robbed seven banks in less than a month in Cleveland and its east suburbs.

Kevin Wolcott, 39, and a woman that the FBI said was assisting him today in his foiled attempt to rob a Shaker Heights bank were arrested. They are being held in Shaker Heights Jail.

Wolcott is suspected of robbing seven banks in Cleveland Heights, University Heights, Lyndhurst, Cleveland and Shaker Heights, and attempting to rob one this morning, when he was arrested as he left PNC Bank at 20711 Chagrin Blvd. just before 11 a.m.

In this case, an employee called police while the suspect was still inside. A patrol officer was nearby and arrested Wolcott as he was walking down the sidewalk outside the bank.

"I think it was a combination of a good reaction by our patrol officers and great recognition by the employees of the bank," Shaker Heights Lt. Jeff DeMuth said.

The serial bank robber's odd trademark made him memorable: he wore white powder on his face in most of the robberies.

Wolcott is expected to be charged in federal court on Monday. The woman is also expected to face charges soon.
