Police Investigating Sexual Assault At Shaker Heights High School

Shaker Heights Police and Shaker Heights School District administrators are investigating an alleged student sex assault, reports Patch news partner WEWS News Channel 5.

Shaker Heights Police and Shaker Heights School District administrators are investigating an alleged student sex assault, reports Patch news partner WEWS News Channel 5.

According to Shaker Heights School District and the high school’s website, there was a sex assault that occurred inside the high school on Tuesday.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested and the girl was treated and released at a local hospital.

School officials believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the safety of students and staff.  Law enforcement and school officials continue to investigate the incident.

“I want to commend and thank the students who came forward promptly with information leading to the arrest. They did the right thing. I also want to commend the staff members who took swift and appropriate action, and our police department, which is always responsive, professional, and sensitive to the needs of young people. Please know that we work hard as a staff, and in cooperation with the police, to keep our students safe. Students and adults who have knowledge of any criminal activity or dangerous situation are asked to tell a staff member immediately. Vigilance and communication are our best,” said Shaker Heights High School Principal Michael Griffith.

The prosecutor’s office has deemed the incident to be a sex assault, the student suspect remained in police custody Thursday morning.
