First Responders to Be Honored by Shaker Heights Rotary

Firefighter and Police Officer of the Year announced.

Two Shaker Heights first responders will be honored by the Shaker Heights Rotary Club next week.

The club awards a Firefighter and Police Officer of the Year annually, chosen by each department’s chief.

This year’s recipients are Police Lt. Jeff DeMuth and Ret. Fire Lt. Shaun Probert.

DeMuth has been with the department for 26 years and has performed several jobs, including leading the SWAT team. He added that he’s met U.S. presidents and been involved in some high-profile investigations.

“My career, collectively, has been the highlight, because I’ve been able to do a lot of things,” said DeMuth.

Probert was with the Shaker Heights Fire Department for 18 years, retiring in 2010. “He was a great employee, a great officer,” said Fire Chief Kevin Jacobs. “We miss him, from the rank and file on up. We’re happy to do this — proud to do this.”
