Shaker Heights Fire Chief Kevin Jacobs confirmed today that the five people — a mother, her two children, and her visiting niece and nephew — jumped out a second-story window to escape the flames. Two people — Jance Reynolds, 62, and his 18-year-old daughter Mary Paige — did not make it out and died from smoke inhalation.
In the 9-1-1 call, a man and woman are heard yelling at others to jump. Sources close to the family have suggested that Jance Reynolds was trying to get Mary Paige out of the home when they both died.

Jacobs confirmed that firefighters were unable to enter the home when they arrived on the scene at 4 a.m. because the second and third floors were too unstable.
The three remaining members of the Reynolds family have been supported by their church since the tragedy. Members of the church have arranged semi-permanant living arrangments for the family.
