The meeting commenced at 6:00pm with all of the school board members in attendance. Also in attendance were Superintendent Gregory Hutchings and Treasurer Bryan Christman.
OPENING OF THE MEETING
There was no Pledge of Allegiance and no public comments were offered during the “Public Communication to the Board” period provided at the beginning of the meeting.
Dr. Hutchings stated that he wished to publicly acknowledge and thank the central office staff. He described them as "an awesome team."
SUPERINTENDENT'S 90-DAY ENTRY PLAN
The Superintendent presented and discussed his 90-Day Entry Plan. Dr. Hutchings' full plan may be seen here and a PowerPoint of his presentation at the board meeting may be seen here
The plan is extensive with 5 identified goals and 66 specific action steps to be taken in the first 90 days. Dr. Hutchings will report back to the board in December and his report will help to structure and direct the next Strategic Plan for the district. The following 5 goals will serve as the benchmark for gauging Dr. Hutchings’ success during his transition:
- Goal 1 – To ensure that the Shaker Heights schools support the district’s mission through continuous improvement with a constant focus on increasing student achievement.
- Goal 2 – To establish effective communication with school and community stakeholders as well as increase community involvement.
- Goal 3 – To adhere to Board of Education policies and governance as well as ensure policies are aligned with the district’s strategic plan.
- Goal 4 – To provide a “world class” education for all students through effective curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment.
- Goal 5 – To ensure efficiency and effectiveness of human and financial capital.

EXECUTIVE SESSION
The board recessed to executive session at 7:40 to discuss preparations for collective bargaining negotiations under Ohio Revised Code (ORC) Section 121.22(G)(4) and employees personnel matters under ORC Section 121.22(G)(1).
