100 Years in 100 Days: Shaker Theatre

100 photos that define Shaker Heights.

Shaker Heights Patch is celebrating the 100 years of Shaker Heights history by creating an online scrapbook. Each day for 100 days, we'll feature a photograph that helps tell the story of Shaker Heights.

Today's photos shows the inside of the Shaker Theatre, which opened in 1937, according to Box Office Magazine. In this ad promoting the grand opening, the theatre boasts about seating 1,800 patrons in "comfortable and luxurious appointments."

The movie house garnered quite a bit of attention in its day. This 1954 feature from Box Office Magazine describes an extensive remodeling after a fire damaged the building. The new interior included an indoor garden and colored lighting.
