100 Years in 100 Days: Ludlow Community Association

100 photos that define Shaker Heights

Shaker Heights Patch is celebrating the 100 years of Shaker Heights history by creating an online scrapbook. Each day for 100 days, we'll feature a photograph that helps tell the story of Shaker Heights.

The 1950s and 1960s brought the battle over fair housing to Shaker Heights, and the Ludlow neighborhood was at the center of that struggle. Residents responded by creating the Ludlow Community Association, thus ensuring their place in Civil Rights history.

This story from Ohio Bell magazine describes how neighbors fought and redlining. In 2004, ABC aired a documentary called "The Reunion," on the relationships between the children who lived in the neighborhood then. NPR also produced a story on the documentary.
