Shaker Heights Teen Chosen for Cleveland Arts Prize

University School violinist receives Emerging Artist Award; joins ranks of Akron natives The Black Keys, Andrea Levy

A Shaker Heights teen will be honored as one of the region's best artists at the Cleveland Arts Prize ceremony next month.

Chad Hoopes, a student at the University School in Hunting Valley, will be presented with the Emerging Artist award at the Cleveland Museum of Art in June.

Hoopes, a violinist, won the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition in 2008 at age 13. He's played with the Cleveland Orchestra as well as several others in the U.S. and Canada.

Last year, he signed with a French record label and is expected to release an album this fall.
