Bob Marley, Queen and Rihanna are all artists you likely thought would never be covered in the confines of a church. That changes tonight at 7 p.m. at .
The church will host the third annual concert. Doors open at at 6 p.m. for appetizers, desserts and a raffle. Tickets for the concert cost $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students and children.
Attendees can expect a positive message to accompany the music. This year's theme is "Caught in the Sin Trap."
"It's different this year, more on the bullying aspect of things," Director and producer Carole Negus said. "Shootings in schools. We really wanted to involve the youth. They have a lot of pressures and negative stuff going on these days. It's stuff that we need to take a look at."
Negus said she wanted to use secular music to draw in more kids to hear a powerful message. In previous years, 200 to 300 people attended the concert. She's counting on more this year after some hefty promotion, via social media.
Vocalists will be backed by a band featuring several Cleveland-area musicians. Four of them are part of the church's Praise Band, which plans every Sunday. The band includes Shaker resident Pete Psarras and Kevin Richards, who founded the in Cleveland Heights.
"The location is in our sanctuary, it's such an incredible place to have a Rock concert," Negus said. "If somebody asks me what made me do this, I can't say because there are so many things."
