Seven Babies Found Dead in Utah Garage

Longtime police veterans called the discovery "emotionally draining."

Pleasant Grove, Utah – Police have accused a 39-year-old woman of killing seven babies over the course of a decade and putting the bodies in cardboard boxes in a garage, KLTV reported.

Megan Huntsman has been charged with six counts of murder and investigators are trying to figure out how the killings could have happened over the course of a decade without anyone noticing, the TV station reported.

Police believe Huntsman gave birth to the babies between 1996 and 2006. The remains were discovered when Huntsman's ex-husband Darren West found them while cleaning out the garage.

Longtime police veterans said the case has been "emotionally draining" and upsetting to investigators, according to a story on AOL.

"My personal reaction? Just shocked. Couldn't believe it. The other officers felt the same," said Police Capt. Michael Roberts, a 19-year police veteran who was in the home when the bodies were discovered.

West pled guilty to two counts of possessing chemicals intended to make methamphetamine. He was sentenced to 9 years and appealed the sentence down to three years, Aol.com reported.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that West is believed to be the father of the children, but DNA tests are pending.

The newspaper reported that Huntsman moved out of the home where the babies were found in 2011. The home is owned by the West's parents and Huntsman's three daughters still live in the home.
