Shaker Heights City Council will consider a $250,000 loan to the owners of Tower East for interior and exterior improvements at tonight's meeting. Council meets at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers. Meetings are open to the public. See the full agenda here.

Try For a Free Family Pool Pass at Shaker Heights Golden Egg Hunt

Annual event will be April 13

Shaker Heights' annual Golden Egg Hunt will be April 13. The hunt will be at Horseshoe Lake Park from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Children 8 and under can search for treat-filled eggs, get balloon animals and enter a jelly bean counting contest. And, of course, there's the coveted golden egg, which contains a summer 2013 pool pass for a family of four. Snack and beverage sales will benefit the Recreation for Youth Scholarship Fund.

The New York times recently published an interactive map with Google that breaks down U.S. Census figures by block. Click here to view the map. Type "Shaker Heights, OH" into the search bar on the right and start exploring the various maps in each category: race and ethnicity, income, housing and families and education. The United States Census Bureau recently released five-year estimates on 40 topics regarding Shaker Heights and every other community in the country. Shaker Woman In Middle of New Adoption Legislation

Betsie Norris, director of Adoption Network Cleveland, was adopted herself and is behind a new law that would allow adoptees fair access to adoption files.

Betsie Norris, a Shaker Heights resident, told The Plain Dealer she believes children who are adopted should have access to their adoption files. Norris, the director of Adoption Network Cleveland and Patch blogger, is an adoptee herself and wants to change the state's current law on how that information available, the paper reports. Alex Nichols will lead department beginning April 1

"Something keeps bringing me back here," said Alex Nichols, Shaker Heights' new recreation department director. Whatever that something is, it has brought her back to Shaker Heights twice since her family first moved here when she was in sixth grade. And April 1, she'll begin work as the city's recreation department director. She'll replace Pam Quinn, who retired in December. Nichols last worked at the Geauga County YMCA and has led the Avon Lake Recreation Department, where she won an award for her work on the pool and implemented online registration and created efficiencies in the department. Shaker Heights Preservation Award Applications Available Now

Nominate someone who has preserved and improved their property in Shaker Heights

Nominations are being accepted now for the 15th annual City of Shaker Heights Landmark Commission's Preservation Awards. The awards recognize and highlight exterior building projects completed in the last two years by residential and non-residential property owners to preserve and improve their buildings. Categories are retention of original materials, extrerior restoration, excellence in stewardship, distinguished landscape and architecturally appropriate addition.
