Serving the community since 1937, the Shaker Heights Public Library's Main Library is located at 16500 Van Aken Boulevard, accessed at Lee Road between Van Aken and Chagrin Boulevards. Convenient to public transit with free on-site parking, the library has a large collection of books, DVDs, CDs and audiobooks, digital access to downloadable audiobooks and ebooks and offers a wide variety of children's, teen and adult programs. The library also has many amenities, including computer classes, business services, free internet access, a teen activities center, an art gallery wall and the Play and Learn Station for children from infants to school age. A quiet study area and two-person study rooms are available, and larger meeting rooms can be reserved for a small fee for community or social gatherings. The Around-the-World community playground, managed by the City of Shaker Heights, is located next door. The Bertram Woods Branch Library is located at 20600 Fayette Road, on the corner of Warrensville Center Road and Shaker Boulevard.

The Shaker Heights Public Library is a member of the CLEVNET consortium. Items can be checked out with a CLEVNET Greater Access Library Card, available free of charge to residents of the State of Ohio.
