Spring Sports Roundup: Boys Lacrosse

How did the Shaker Heights High School boys lacrosse team do this year? Here's a quick summary. Third in a series.

2012 record: 7-9; (3-12 last year)

Coach: Steve Byrne

Season highlights: The team lost four games by one goal, two in overtime and two in the last thirty seconds.

“It showed that we could play with good programs,” Byrne said. He was also pleased with the season opener, when Shaker came from behind to beat Brecksville 8-6.

Standout Seniors: Josh Yauch, Peter Shenk, Spencer Murray and Simon Pappas

Returning Stars: juniors Eric Sterin, Colin Brady, Anthony Kinney, Aaron Harris and Anthony Spencer

Coach’s comment: “The difference between 2011 and 2012 is the level of commitment," Byrne said. "The team had a very good attitude and approach to getting consistent in raising our game. They were pretty receptive to instruction . . . they had the desire to win.

"We have a very strong team coming back.”
