Cleveland Magazine Rates the Suburbs: Where Does Shaker Rank?
Cleveland Magazine released its annual Rating the Suburbs issue. Find out where Shaker Heights ranks.
Shaker Heights didn't make Cleveland Magazine's list of top 20 suburbs in Cleveland, but did secure a No. 1 ranking in one area.
You guessed it: Property taxes.
Shaker Homeowners pay $3,630 per $100,000 in annual property taxes. That's the highest property tax rate of any of Cleveland's 77 suburbs ranked in Cleveland Magazine's annual "Rating the Suburbs" issue, which is out now.
The magazine ranks suburbs based on a number of factors, including safety, education and home-related topics.
Shaker was ranked No. 54 out of 77 in safety and No. 33 out of 57 in education.
Shaker was highly ranked on home-related topics. The city was rated No. 11 in median home sale price, coming in at $237,000. Shaker also was ranked No. 15 in 10-year median home sale price increase, at 15 percent gain.

It's number one with me! We moved here recently for the schools and couldn't be happier.

Jen, I agree! It's not all about taxes.

Was happy until they proposed another increase, this time an increase in income tax rate up for vote August 7th. We already rank #1 in amount taxed. Please be reasonable, set some limits and respectfully vote this income tax increase down. We have all been affected by the recession. I love this city but can't keep voting for more taxation. We already discourage home ownership with property tax rates, we have so many people that rent.
